Explosive Progress: A Look at Our Latest Controlled Blast
This April, Chili Bar Slate took a significant step forward in expanding our slate reserves and enhancing operational safety through a carefully planned controlled blast at our quarry.
Months of Preparation
The success of this project was rooted in meticulous planning and preparation that spanned several months. With the help of Neil’s Controlled Blasting, our team designed a precise grid for the blast zone and methodically drilled bore-holes throughout the entire area.
The Big Day
As dawn broke on April 22nd, our team, alongside blasting specialists, began the final preparations. Over two tons of specialized explosives and equiptment were carefully transported to the blast zone. At 11:35 am, following a thorough safety check of the surrounding area, the ‘All Clear’ was given and the blast was triggered.
Post-blast, blasting specialists followed strict protocols to ensure all charges had detonated and the quarry was safe to re-enter. We’re pleased to report that we received the all-clear shortly, allowing Chili Bar to begin clean-up operations the same day.
The blasting zone covered an impressive area of almost 10,000 square feet. The estimated volume of the blast exceeded 6,000 square yards – roughly equivalent to the volume of two Olympic swimming pools!
This controlled blast has allowed us to access more usable material while significantly increasing the safety and efficiency of our quarry operations.
A Word of Thanks
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Neil’s Controlled Blasting for their exceptional services. Their professionalism, expertise, and state-of-the-art equipment were instrumental in the success of this project.
At Chili Bar Slate, we’re committed to continuous improvement and responsible resource management. This controlled blast marks another step in our journey to provide high-quality slate while prioritizing safety and efficiency.
